How to Price Your Work Based on Your DISC Blind Spots
If you are independent, your price is a story you tell under mild threat. DISC predicts the plot.
Blind spots by style
D
You price for speed and dominance ("I will just win the work") and forget scope creep. Correction: package outcomes, not hours, with explicit change-order language.
I
You discount to keep warmth and momentum. Correction: write the number before the call. Say it once. Stop talking.
S
You price for relationship preservation. Correction: use a three-tier menu so "no" is a package choice, not a personal rejection.
C
You underprice because you can see every flaw in your offer. Correction: price on client ROI and comparable market, not on your internal quality anxiety.
A simple pricing drill
- Write your number.
- Raise it 20%.
- Script the sentence.
- Deliver it to a mirror, then to a safe human, then to a real prospect.
- Review monthly: which discounts were strategy vs fear?
Ethics still apply
Do not gouge trapped customers. Do not confuse boundary with exploitation. Fair premium for scarce skill is healthy. Panic discounting is a tax on your future.
Solo builders: your next proposal should expose your DISC blind spot on purpose and include one structural fix. Money conversations are training, not identity verdicts.
